Rustic GREENville House in North Carolina is Powered by Both Solar and Geothermal Energy

The GREENville house was carefully oriented on a site in North Carolina to maximize the amount of energy an array of photovoltaic panels [1] can collect. This system combined with geothermal HVAC system provides all of the home’s electrical and water heating requirements, providing the residents with long-term energy security.

Energy efficiency is still important, which is why Tonic installed shutters which control the amount of solar gain that reaches the interior while also allowing plenty of daylight [2]. The central double height living space opens out to the surrounding landscape and upstairs balcony, as well as the interior dining and kitchen area. We’re especially enamored with the different colored facades, which break up any potential monotony, though Tonic is never guilty of that!
