In their new life as a table, chair or a bookcase the wood is partnered with stainless steel and fibreboard to give the unique sustainable pieces a contemporary finish.

Furniture designer Logan Komorowski salvages old Chinese riverboats and reinvents them as beautiful pieces of furniture laden with history and meaning. Dubbed Shipwood, the pieces Komorowski creates honors the past through the preservation of the wood grain and through specially crafted plaques that tell a story of the former boat’s history.

The decommissioned boats originate from southern areas of China and were previously used as fishing vessels in the Yangtze and Huang rivers. Constructed from Douglas fir and teak, the boats were built as early as the Qing dynasty in the early 20th Century. However, in their new life as a table, chair or a bookcase, the wood is partnered with stainless steel and fibreboard to give the unique and sustainable pieces a contemporary finish.
