Scientists Create the World’s First ‘Nutritionally Balanced’ Pizza
Scientists in Glasgow have created the world’s first “nutritionally balanced” pizza. After careful research in the lab, the scientists created a pizza that has balanced amounts of salt, fat, carbohydrates and essential vitamins and nutrients. The pizza, which is sold by EatBalanced, passed the crucial taste test by adults and kids alike, who agreed that it’s a great pizza pie.
Pizza is a junk food staple, but the greasy dish provides a very unbalanced meal. Determined to create a healthy pie, the scientists carefully analyzed the nutritional content of twenty five Margarita pizzas, comparing ratios of salt, fat and carbohydrates with vitamins and nutrients. Unsurprisingly, most contained high levels of salt, fat and carbohydrates, which are added not only for flavor, but to keep a longer shelf life. But vitamins and minerals like iron were low if not absent, while saturated fat content was high.
Perhaps ardent pizza lovers themselves, the scientists refused to believe that pizza is only suited for the junk food category. After breaking down the common ratios of pizza contents, they created a new ratio that would qualify pizza as a well balanced, nutritional meal. Salt was reduced, whole wheat flour added, as was vitamin B12, fiber, iron, vitamin A, vitamin C and Scottish seaweed for flavor. The resulting pie has the proper carbohydrate, fat and protein ratios, and according to study groups of children and adults, is absolutely delicious! This healthy pizza is only available in the UK, and it comes in three yummy flavors.
