In big, bustling cities, it’s hard to find new space for commercial buildings. But the VW +BS architectural firm took their search in Singapore above and beyond, literally. Their newly constructed Periscope building is tucked behind a series of storefronts and it has a spectacular extension that rises high and hovers out and over the street below.

Swedish retail giant H&M started the summer right with a two day sale in a temporary container store that popped up right on the beach! Situated at the Hague’s popular Scheveningen seaside resort, the sale donated partial proceeds to WaterAid, an international NGO that provides access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in the world’s poorest communities. Featuring their “Beachwear in Shades of Blue” line, the event marked the ninth annual collaboration between H&M and WaterAid. But best of all? H&M sold their true blue wares in a temporary container.

Van Alen Books, specializing in both architecture and design, opened earlier this week, proclaiming the revival of the architectural bookstore. The project designed by LOT-EK was commissioned by the Van Alen Institute and uses recycled doors throughout the interior, creating shelf space, benches and even a staircase! Jump ahead for a peek into this eye-electrifying design, which is bound to become New York City’s next hot spot for design buffs and the architecturally acute.

Construction has just broken ground on Phase 1 of MVRDV’s Amanora Apartment City – Future Towers in Pune, India. Developed by City Corporation – a leading real estate development corporation in the Indian state of Maharashtra – the new towers will be comprised of 3,500 apartments and public amenities to complete a large scale mixed-use housing development totaling 4.3 million square feet. A dynamic structure formed with towering peaks and deep valleys, the building’s program is more than what meets the eye. MVRDV focused on creating a housing stucture that would not only meet the needs of Indians looking for adequate housing, but to create a vertical city equipped with all the public spaces and resources needed to give way to a comfortable living environment and lively social pole.
