The bar is a living and drinking reminder of the 1920’s, speaking of a simpler time filled with older world goods and secret names for cocktails. Harking back to the ambiance of the 20’s, the bar tables fold up and away into the walls, beer bottles have been used as decoration and vintage decor is used extensively throughout the interior. Environmentally sustainable plywood was used to construct the tables, walls and bar space, and everything is modular and completely reusable. Moreover, the bar was installed in only five days and boasts the ability to be easily flat-packed away in less that. The Doghouse was named the official winner of The Premise competition on September 13th and opened its doors 24 days later.
Hidden behind a pet store in the Darilinghurst area of Sydney, the pop-up bar will be open for only a short time. In fact, this weekend is the last chance you’ll have to see it in Sydney, but since the entire bar can be taken down and flat packed, you just may see it pop up in city near you.

Inspired by secrecy and concealment, the bar was completed as part of the design competition The Premise and features fold-away tables, vintage ornaments, beer bottle decorations and other eco-friendly materials. Open for only one more weekend, if you’re in the area you’d…

Environmentally sustainable plywood was used to construct the modular bar space, that will be uninstalled and flat packed at the end of the weekend.

Adele from Foolscap says that the main sustainable materials used in the pop-up bar were three: eco ply/jute rope and hired/recycled vintage furniture and fixtures.

Beer bottles are used as decor along the bar and are hoisted using the jute rope and a pulley system.

The entire experience encourages patrons to engage with the themes of secrecy and concealment.

The Doghouse announced the winner of the design competition on September 13th and then 24 days later opened the doors of the secret pop-up bar.

The location though is no secret, and you can find it this weekend at 287A Liverpool St, Darlinghurst, open Thursday thru Sunday from 6 pm to 12 am.

Adele also said, “As the bar was installed in only five days, the design incorporates set design elements, as well as addressing issues of sustainability and re-usability through a modular design constructed from environmentally sustainable plywood.”

After the weekend, the entire bar will be flat packed away and maybe will end up as another pop-up bar in a city near you.
