German designer Angelika Hess is located in Rosenheim near the Alps, where many local sports enthusiasts enjoy rock climbing; this led her to ask: “What happens to all those climbing ropes after they’ve lived out their load-bearing lifecycle”? Over time the ropes need to changed for safety reasons, and the old ones are often relegated to climbers’ garages – so she decided to give this strong and colorful material a second life by turning the old ropes into fun modern furniture. Hess’ cushy handmade Seilschaft furnishings invite users to play and explore new ways of interacting with them – the versatile pieces can serve as chaise lounges, mats, day beds, and more!
