Designed by Artefact, Serenity is a concept for a smart monitor that presents clear information through elegant, minimal wall-mounted e-ink tablets. The networked tablets are described as a “Home OS” can provide the user with “status updates, controls and context for different aspects of our home environment: temperature, lighting, sound, energy consumption, device status, location, and airflow.” The monitoring system can also grow and adapt based on the behavior of the homes’ inhabitants.

The visual interface of the Serenity system is certainly its most striking feature; among the most impressive of its displays is an abstract plant whose “leaves sway when you walk by, fall when you are over-consuming, and turn green when you are sustaining.” All of its interfaces are intended to provide a aesthetically appealing piece of technology that is both easy to read and intuitive to use. Additionally, the system is adaptable, and “a range of styles could be selected to create harmony with personal tastes.” Serenity has already earned Artefact a National BraunPrize, as well as the 2012 red dot Award for Design Concept.
