Gallery: Shu-Chun Hsiao’s Google Bird Houses Point Out the Dwellings of...

Using the well-recognizable symbol, Hsiao pinpoints bird's miniature residences in the physical landscape.

These playful Google birdhouses by Shu-Chun Hsiao re-imagine typical bird dwellings as points of interest in urban locations. Inspired by the Google Maps landmark icon, Hsiao’s modern bird houses mark the places where birds go to rest.

Here at Inhabitat we love seeing innovative new digs for our feathered friends – from pixellated tree houses to adobe tile abodes. Whereas some designs seek to blend into the environment, Shu-Chun Hsiao‘s Google Birdhouses do the opposite. They tag the little feathered creature’s homes, identifying the places they roost so that passersby can take note and keep an eye out for them.
