MOKO Architects [2] just unveiled plans for a diving and skydiving center constructed out of two abandoned silos [3] and a series of staggered shipping containers [4]. The ten story multi-purpose recreation center will be built out of existing silos located in the Żerań industrial area just 12 km outside of Warsaw’s nucleus.

One of the two silos will be filled with water to create a safe dive center for depths of up to 25 meters, while a “cave” below the adjacent silo will provide “wreck diving” simulation sans the coral reef [6]. The remainder of the second silo will be converted into a mini urban skydiving center.

Shipping containers surrounding the two silos will provide a host of functions, including office space, hostel accommodation [7] for divers, a kitchen, changing rooms, exhibition space for public events, a kitchen and terraces on every level. In addition to being a very cool place for Polish adventurers to practice their sky and water moves, this is a fantastic example of adaptive reuse [8]. Construction is expected to start in 2015.
