Silvertree Eco-Tower Rises in the UK

The Royal Victoria Docks in London are bursting with development, and we were excited to hear that the latest tower to take hold boasts some extraordinary eco features. Designed by Studio RHE , the Silvertree  is a 24-story skyscraper wrapped in a shimmering photovoltaic skin that is interspersed with lush vertical gardens. Slated for completion in time for the 2012 Olympics , the building will also feature a ground-source heat pump and an on-site biomass energy generator to round out its array of carbon-cutting features.
Located in the Royal Victoria Docks in Newham Council, the Silvertree will hold offices, retail areas and cafes. The tower wears its green credentials on its sleeves, literally. On one side, curved aluminum bands protect the tower from the sun while providing space for a series of photovoltaic arrays. On the other side, a series of green terraces shade the interior from the sun and act as winter gardens. To top it off, a ground-source heat pump  will provide additional renewable energy to the project.
While info on the project is scarce and it still has yet to go through the process of planning approval and value engineering, it certainly looks like a promising project to keep an eye out for.
