SkyLab Architecture’s Wastewater Facility for Portland, Oregon Aims for LEED Gold

SkyLab Architecture ^[6] has unveiled plans for the new Columbia Boulevard Wastewater Treatment Support Facility (CBWTSF) in Portland. The 11,490 square foot collaborative office building employs a broad array of sustainable building strategies such as green roofs ^[7], clerestory windows, natural ventilation, bioswales ^[8] and adaptive environments with the aim of achieving a LEED ^[9] Gold rating.

Portland City Council approved a bid from Skanska ^[10] USA to construct the $6.7 million support facility back in May 2012, and the new facility will provide offices for the Bureau of Environmental Services ^[11] engineering and construction management staff. The City of Portland’s green building policy ^[12] has been a driving force behind the desire to gain LEED Gold ^[13] accreditation. The free-flowing interior layout of offices, meeting spaces, conference rooms and training facilities is said to provide an open and collaborative working environment for the CBWTSF staff.
