It's always good news when local crafts and products get the center stage once again, as in days of old. Local artists work by hand and produce safer and more durable products. Cost is really immaterial, when you think of the alternatives -- products that break after a day or two, with toxic content, and have high carbon impacts during mass-production.

Now, if sweat shops in China use green electricity during production, that would have made a huge difference.

I would much rather support local artisans then buy gifts from large chain stores. Not only will the gifts I give be unique - I will also be getting way more value for my money. I am a big supporter of Small Business Saturday.

It's interesting to see what skilled people in your area can create; I try my best to support them and the local economy.

Small Business Saturday is such a great concept -- I'll definitely be sharing this info with my parents, regarding their family restaurant and hotel small business.
