Above, the Fablab House from the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia is on their home turf for this competition and one of it's most striking differences from the other houses is its departure from rectangular home. Solar panels completely cover the curvaceous roof and is built off the ground for a boost of natural ventilation.
Teams from all over the world have traveled to Madrid with their prefabricated solar-powered houses, and seventeen teams are listed as competitors. Two teams from the USA crossed over the pond to compete head-to-head with teams from Germany, Spain, France, China, the UK, Finland and India. So far, the teams’ designs and plans for their houses are impressive and creative and only a true test of the homes capabilities will reveal the winner.
