Inventor Terry Hope has created the Solarcross [1] – a sun-powered electric bike [2] outfitted with three photovoltaic panels [3], a 24-volt electric motor, and three 5,000 mAh lithium-ion batteries. The brilliant bicycle soaks up the sun’s rays as a source of clean electricity to propel it through the streets. All in all the kit weighs about 50 pounds and it can reach speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour (31 mph) – and best of all, Hope says that any bike [4] can be converted to run on solar power for about $300-$500!
