Gallery: SOLCOOL SOLAR-POWER AIR CONDI...

Since the hottest months of the year are also the sunniest – the idea of using solar energy to power your air-conditioner makes perfect sense. In fact we’re frankly amazed that its taken so long to develop such an obviously good idea: SolCool’s super smart Millennia air-conditioner uses solar power to cool you down during the height of summer steaminess – cleverly making use of the summer heat instead of blindly fighting it. In fact, Inhabitat HQ could really use one of these right about now… The basic SolCool system has the same output capacity to a two ton air conditioning system but uses 85% less energy than equivalent high efficiency air conditioners; and the dual battery/solar powered system enables the unit to run 24 hours a day, even during the most overcast of days or when blackouts occur.

One of the most unique attributes of the Millennia 4.0 is that it’s powered on a direct current (DC) which allows for the most efficient use of solar energy. The use of DC also allows the Millennia 4.0 to have integrated attachments such as water purification systems, lights, and even ceiling fans. The latest version can also heat a room. All of which SolCool believes will help make-up for the $20,000 to $40,000 cost (before subsidies) of installing solar panels on the average household’s roof. SolCool’s unit is a way of stepping into the solar powered world without committing all at once, by integrating solar power efficiently for smaller applications.

For those who have the means to afford more lavish accommodations and are interested in SolCool’s Millennia 4.0 system, have no fear; the entire unit can be sized or used in combination and/or zones to fulfill up to 10 ton air conditioning requirements.

I can’t remember the name of the company that create them, but I’ve seen one company that creates ventilation chimneys. There’s also a fan in there to help with extraction on a hotter day – driven by a small PV array on top of the chimney. When the sun comes out, the fan speeds up. These sorts of things are just the sort of clever but simple technologies that’ll make a difference…

I called their local rep for my state and was told that the product does not live up to its claims. He said they were redesigning. Unit cost is almost $5,000 and solar power package an additional $3,000. I

  9. Osi Okonkwo Osi Okonkwo says:

The articles speaks of a $20,000 to $40,000 of cost for installation in the average American home, but the sales rep is talking about just $8,000. What gives?

  10. The cost of the 2 ton (26,000 Btu’s) Millennia is $3,795 without installation. It was designed for high heat and/or high humidity climates. It is all DC powered and uses a maximum of 900 watts. It has a “smart charger” so the Millennia can be powered by solar, wind, fuel cell, generator, US or EURO standard electricity. Previous models performed well in dry to medium humid climates. Due to the huge demand globally, we have had to beef up our manufacturing ability. There is a lot of misinformation on our product and we are addressing it as best we humanly can. Please go to our website for accurate information.

I have checked this out. What a wad of gum… Roughly 4k without panel, depends? There is no way in science, this can operate for 24 hrs. If you do not has enough solar!!! will run on electric (mostly). I can not see getting beyond 10k BTU’s. I could not even come close, to how this installs, other then a trailer. Best answer, an open room to outside. What a crock!!! They do not have any units either available;). Which means, deposits, long wait times to start up a dream, and then maybe you get something worthless or not. You see this American crap all the time. Did I mention, they were tied with Aqua, so anyway, all these strories and people investing in dream companies, and both companies end up signing you a song and dance. Now after this story and talking a bit, they will end up selling you a swamp cooler, if your an idiot. Made In America again… Wait a year or two for Israel to come out with something that works.

This looks like a good product , but I see people like TOM who seem to be very negative. Is this just another case of people who feel empowered behind a keyboard to complain about things they know nothing about. What does being tied to aqua mean? Is aqua a company or does it mean water? Plus TOM says it is “American Crap” and to wait for Isreal to come out with something that works. So this means there are multiple solar A/C units? Or maybe TOM is a compettitor trying to make this look bad or better yet a power company rep?

So is this fact or fiction?

I have been around the world working on the solcool unit from the start it has yet to blow cold air and produce any thing less than the need of a 10 kw system to keep it running and I know because i built one of the 1st off gridd system for this unit. Solcool failed to provide any warranty for any of the units my clients bought. If you are considering buying this unit ask for solid proof of their claims and do not pay for anything without receiving a working unit. The team at solcool, and trust me their has been many of them have put forth fraudulent claims and have screwed many people world wide out of there money.
