If you keep up with the latest gadget news, you’ve undoubtedly heard about some of the innovative products coming out of this week’s Consumer Electronics Show. One of our favorites is the Sony Vaio W series “Eco Edition”, an ultra-green mini laptop that even comes in a green-tinted plastic enclosure made from 23% recycled CDs.

The Eco Edition’s green qualities go deeper than just its coloring — its carrying case is made from recycled plastic bottles, and the device is RoHS, Energy Star 5.0, and EPEAT compliant. Sony’s latest offering also has a high-definition, 10.1 inch LED screen, 250 gigabytes of hard drive storage, and up to seven hours of battery life. At just $450, it’s a reasonably-priced offering for anyone that needs a second computer for simple tasks.

In addition to the Eco Edition, Sony also unveiled new Z series lightweight, F series, and Z series laptops at CES. So we have to ask — why don’t these other computer have the same green qualities as the Eco Edition? Eventually, we hope that Sony ditches the “Eco Edition” label altogether and makes every laptop equally sustainable.
