Sprint Introduces Replenish, the First Eco-Friendly Android Smartphone
The ever-evolving transition from cell phones to smart phones has most of us itching for the latest model. But what to do when we want an upgrade that goes lighter on the earth? Sprint may have the answer with their new smartphone – touted as the first eco-friendly Android device. A combination of recycled materials, solar charging and the Android 2.2 Froyo platform makes the Samsung Replenish is the eco-answer for today’s smart device.
The Replenish’s body is partially made of recycled materials, and 82% of the device itself can be recycled. The phone comes in totally recycled packaging, and doesn’t contain any toxic flame retardants, polyvinyl chloride, phthalates or beryllium. You can also further the device’s green capabilities with a solar door charger, which is sold separately.
A QWERTY keyboard and 2.4 inch screen makes the internet and email easy to navigate. The Replenish is also GPS and Wi-Fi ready, making surfing the web even easier. The device also has a built-in 2.0 megapixel camera and 600 MHz processor.
The Replenish allows you to surf the web while the sun charges its batteries. The eco-conscious and wallet-conscious can rest easy as well as the Replenish will set you back only around $50 — an extremely low price tag for a smart device.
Although it is not the first eco-phone, Sprint has been committed to environmental consciousness since 2008. Their program includes recycling 50% of their operational waste, setting environmental standards for their suppliers, and pledging to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
