Staples is set to go beyond stocking regular old inkjets and paper – the United States’ largest office supply store just announced that it will be the first major retailer to offer 3D printers for sale. Customers can already visit the Staples e-commerce site and order 3D System’s Cube 3D printer online, and by the end of June the retailer will offer desktop 3D printers in select stores.
The Cube comes with 25 pre-designed 3D templates to get the printing fun started. Customers can order additional templates online, or designers can create their own custom templates at home. The printer has Wi-Fi, so that any template can be easily downloaded, and also is Mac or Windows compatible. The Cube is also portable enough to use in small businesses or classrooms.
Staples is stocking 3D System’s Cube 3D printer to bring important and innovative technology to its customers-acknowledging the importance of 3D printing technology and how it may change our businesses. The availability of the printer at a relatively low cost can also cut small businesses’ manufacturing costs, helping them to thrive and move forward by printing prototypes right in their own offices.
The Cube 3D Printer that is now available at Staples.com can print objects that are 5.5” x 5.5” x 5.5” in 16 different colors and materials such as recyclable ABS and compostable PLA plastic cartridge refills. The ready-to-use printer is available for $1,299.99.
