Woodlyn Park began as a humble working farm but has now blossomed into a resort complete with four unique -and when we say unique, we mean unique – types of lodging, a restaurant and bar and a stage arena. The resort is only 700 meters from the area’s Waitomo Caves Village and just 2 minutes from the famous glow worm caves. In addition to the fact that most of the accommodations have been recycled, the hobbit hotel was built with an insulating material that gives it added warmth in the winter and keeps it cool during the summer.

We all know that Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee head to Cabo for spring break, but when they feel like keeping their vacays low key, Woodlyn Park in Otorohanga, New Zealand is their getaway spot of choice. Not only is the idyllic resort home to the world’s first green-roofed hobbit hotel (complete with specially designed hobbit furniture, of course), it also gives visitors the option to stay in a refurbished fighter plane chamber, a recycled rail car room or a remodeled ship suite! The grass-covered suites lovingly referred to as “The Hobbits” can accommodate up to 6 people in each unit and have their own kitchens and toilets.

A peek inside one of the Hobbit rooms – check out the specially designed furniture and decor. In addition to having green roofs, the hobbit rooms were built using polystyrene blocks to give them added warmth in the winter and a cooling affect in summer.

If you’ve got a larger group, the Waitanic is your best bet since you can choose from The Captains Room (which is 3 levels), The Britanic Room (which can sleep up to 4 people), or The Titanic Room (which can sleep up to 6 people).

The boat is one of only 12 that were built for anti submarine patrol in the Islands during WWII and is one of the only ones that is still around.

The plane suite was recycled from a plane that was one of the last allied planes out of Vietnam.
