Ready for your Friday prefab fix? This one was recently completed in Santa Barbara by Stillwater Dwellings. The 3 bedroom, 2 bath home features a soaring butterfly roof that may soon be recognized as a Stillwater Dwellings signature feature. With 4 houses now under their belts, the Seattle-based firm is moving quickly up the ranks in prefab construction with sustainable materials and energy efficient design. Their step-by-step home design process features plug and play modules with a focus on small but efficient spaces.
Located in a private setting with views of the Santa Ynez mountains, the 1,600 sq ft home has a 320 square-foot garage and a courtyard deck that expands the living space outdoors. Eco-friendly materials include micro-strip birch hardwood and Marmoleum flooring, low VOC paints, dual flush toilets, super-insulated wall and roof construction, and recycled content quartz slab countertops. A standing seam metal roof reflects over 30% of the sun’s energy and large overhangs provide tons of cool shade underneath. All Stillwater Dwellings homes feature high-efficiency lighting, high-performance insulation, passive cooling design, Energy Star appliances, and high-efficiency water fixtures.
The homes are built in a controlled factory for precision building to ensure quality and energy efficiency. The prefab firm has a number of predesigned homes you can choose from or you can choose your own. Designing the homes is even easier with an A-B-C step process. Step A – choose your living module from one of six options. Step B – add a connector module that is designed with a universal connector, so they all fit together. Step C – choose your bedroom modules(s), with options for extra offices, mudrooms, bedrooms and garages. Prices for these butterfly-roofed homes start at less than $200/sq ft and include all architecture, structural engineering, and state permit fees.
