Gallery: Store Muu’s ‘Cycle In’ Desk Transforms Your Bike Into a Chair

One of Store Muu's earlier PIT IN concepts proposed a similar desk as a piece of street furniture.

We’re big bike fans here at Inhabitat, and we’re always on the lookout for great designs that seamlessly integrate our favorite form of transport into our lifestyles. Now we’ve spotted one more inspiring item to add to the list: the PIT IN desk from Japan-based Store Muu. This versatile desk serves double duty as a safe place to store your bike – wouldn’t it be great to have one of these to rest upon when grabbing a quick coffee or checking your email?

This sleek plywood desk is perhaps best suited for quick cafe pit stops, where it could save you the trouble of locking up outside. But we think it could also be a good justification for integrating our bikes into our homes, as it provides an opportunity to display and store our bikes at the same time. This design was nominated for the Design Report Award at the Milan Salone Satellite in 2009.

Second what TDW just said. I’d purchase this right now (instead of writing this email) for use during indoor spins, but it doesn’t appear to be compatible with a fluid trainer.

All you need is a support in the back so the wheel can spin, and you can get exercise while browsing the Inhabitat website! Better yet, harness the energy and use it to power your computer and maybe your desklight, too!
