The three bedroom modular residence was carefully arranged on the site to avoid excess solar gain in summer while making the most of winter daylight. Extensive floor to ceiling glazing on the lower level ensures natural light penetrates all downstairs social areas, which are arranged around the kitchen and dining area to ensure continuity between the indoors and outdoors.
Upstairs the master bedroom ensuite is separated with a spotted gum trellis that promotes natural ventilation . The lower level spotted gum cladding contrasts with the upper level Alucobond giving the illusion, according to Modscape, of the home intersecting a timber fence. All rainwater is harvested, which is crucial in drought-stricken Australia, and is then heated using the sun’s power, which lowers the home’s carbon footprint.
