The subterranean hotel is a set of linked rooms hosting private bathrooms and private patios constructed from glass and concrete. The rooms have been partially buried underground with a sod roof covering, which provides both insulation to the rooms and a minimization of the visual impact of the hotel on the landscape. Domed skylights have been installed on the sod roof providing daylight to the spaces below through large channels that reach to the backs of each room.
Tori Langklopp and Roar Svenning, who own and operate the hotel, run the entire Stokkøya Sea Center, which is known for its waters and diving activities. The Sea Center also includes: the Beach Bar, waterfront restaurant in a glass box, as well as other nearby accommodations and dive facilities. Construction on SubHus began in 2008 and the structure was opened to the public in May of 2009. Each cabin has been uniquely designed and furnished with thrift store and auction finds, giving the cabins a comfortable yet raw, industrial feel.

Part of the Stokkøya Sea Center in Norway, this amazing hotel has been built partially submerged into the hillside to minimize the structure’s visual and environmental impact on the coastal area. Designed by Oslo-based Pir II Arkitektkontor, and owned and operated by Tori Langklopp and Roar Svenning, the SubHus is a twelve room bunker-inspired hotel featuring uniquely decorated rooms, furnished with thrift store and antique finds and highlighted with stunning views of the beach settled below.
