Like Loyale’s Fall 2008 collection, this spring’s line is inspired by an exemplary figure of the past. This season’s collection is entitled “organic beatnik” and celebrates the life of Wallace Berman, “a relatively unknown artist and custodian of talent who laid the foundation for counterculture, trippy hippy expressionism in California,” according to the Loyale website. Thus, the prevalence of pleated flower prints and carefully-crafted volume sleeves in many of the pieces represent the bloom of spring as much as it does the bloom of creative expression.
