Gallery: KAIGHT: Shop Sustainable Styl...

Shopping for clothing can be somewhat challenging for today’s eco-fashionista. Lucky for us New Yorkers, local boutiques are popping up left and right to serve up sustainable style. The trend seems to be spreading as we’ve heard of stores opening from London to L.A. While that seems to cover the neo-green urbanites, greening the wardrobe may still be challenging for the rest of the non-New York world. That is why we are happy that our local eco-chic boutique, Kaight, has finally gone online, to help meet the needs of eco-fashionistas everywhere.

+ KAIGHT The brick and mortar version of KAIGHT opened last August in Manhattan’s Lower East Side – around the corner from Inhabitat HQ. The concept grew out of Kate McGregor’s search for stylish, ethically produced clothes made from environmentally friendly textiles. KAIGHT stocks clothes that push the boundaries of fashion in an environmentally conscious and ethical way.

The store’s sleek environment is as eco-conscious as the clothes within it. The floors and desk are made from chocolate brown stained bamboo. The seating and custom shelves are from ABC Home‘s sustainable line. On the racks and shelves you’ll find a nice selection from Linda Loudermilk, Lara Miller, Ciel, and Undesigned to name a few. You will also find accessories such as Beyond Skin‘s handmade shoes and our favorite zip-up wool bags by Conphorm.

Kate has done a nice job pulling together a mix of casual and higher end pieces to stock her inviting, somewhat eponymous store. Lucky for eco-fashionistas everywhere KAIGHT also sells online. However, if you can make it in for a visit it is worth the trip. After stocking up on organic treats for the closet, head around the corner to top it off with a vegan-friendly treat from our favorite bakery, Babycakes. +KAIGHT

This is a selction. I particularly like the 3/4 sleeve. This would look great on my wife. Other good source of eco friendly clothes are GAIAM and ZAPPOS
