Imagine reaching 207 mph in just 4.8 seconds – that’s a pretty impressive feat for any vehicle. Now imagine traveling that fast on a bicycle with a rocket strapped to it. Daredevil Francois Gissy just shattered the world speed record for a bicycle after doing just that at the Circuit Paul Ricard track in the South of France.
Gissy has been at the whole rocket idea for quite a while now and has achieved some impressive speeds in the past, but this latest bike rocket, designed by his friend Arnold Neracher, is so fast it’s kind of hard to even wrap your head around. In fact, the video of the record-breaking ride shows the bicycle dusting Ferrari 430 Scuderia, which looks downright sluggish next to Gissy.
Perhaps even more shocking than the speed is the fact that Gissy’s bike is completely stripped. There are no sophisticated aerodynamics, just a rocket with a saddle to keep anyone foolhardy enough to ride the bike from flying off the back end, and (we hope) a seriously effective set of brakes. And in case you were wondering, yes, the bike does have pedals for those times when Gissy isn’t in quite so much of a hurry. Check out the video to witness the entire crazy ride:
