The race to create the world’s lightest bike is hot and heavy in the cycling world – and PG Bikes and Munich Composites just shot towards the front of the pack with their ultralight Blackbraid Bicycle. This streamlined carbon fiber cycle weighs just under 11 pounds without sacrificing durability and strength. Munich Composites developed the bike’s braided carbon technology, which is as stable as steel and weighs less than aluminum. The Blackbraid is now available in a fixed-gear or a 14-speed touring model.

The frame is composed of beech wood that has been steamed and bent, using the same processes developed back in the 1930′s to make Thonet’s chairs. Aston Martin is famously known for being the sports car of choice for James Bond, but now the carmaker has teamed up with Factor Bikes to create a two-wheeled version of their iconic (and expensive) One-77 Coupe – the One-77 Cycle. A group of Finnish engineers have developed the FlyNano – a single-seater electric seaplane that can soar through the skies and land on any body of water. General Motors just announced a partnership with Japanese company Teijin that they hope will lead to lighter weight and more efficient vehicles. Teijin is an advanced materials company that specializes in carbon fiber and recently released information about their proprietary process that allows carbon fiber sheets to be produced in under a minute. Traditionally, carbon fiber was reserved for only high end automobiles as it takes a long time to mold. With Teijin’s new quick molding technology and General Motor’s drive to make more efficient, mass-produced vehicles, this partnership could lead to a revolutionary increased efficiency in everyday cars and trucks.

E-Bicycle manufacturer M55 Bikes have just unveiled their latest hybrid electric bicycle, dubbed The Beast. While most electric bicycles made are designed to help their riders get up steep hills, The Beast’s unique “pedelec” system enables the e-bike to obtain a top speed of 40 mph. With a hybrid system that allows the user to pedal, as well as use the on board battery to power the electric motor, The Beast can go as far as 75 miles on a single charge.
