Ridekick International, a Colorado-based group whose mission is to encourage people to replace short car trips with bicycle rides has come up with a handy solution for parents who might be hesitant to pedal off on errands with the kids in tow. The Ridekick Electric Child Trailer is a motorized carrier that slots onto the back of your bicycle, and with a DC hub motor and a lithium-ion battery can push a bike on a single charge for up to 15 miles.

Footloose, a new e-bike designed by Mando, offers a new way to travel light without breaking a sweat. Lighter and cheaper than four-wheeled e-vehicles, electric bikes are a great way to extend your range without a lot of extra time and effort. Next week Audi will debut their prototype Wörthersee e-bike, which promises to be a highly advanced, versatile electric bike from the German automakers. The Audi e-bike will be unveiled at Wörthersee in Carinthia, Austria where trial biker Julien Dupont and downhill specialist Petra Bernhard will demonstrate their stunts and streetbike skills. “As a high-performance e-bike for sports and trick cycling, it features the Audi core competences of design, ultra, e-tron and connect,” stated Audi’s Head of Design Wolfgang Egger.

SoBi, created and founded by Ryan Rzepecki, is an affordable bike sharing system that makes it easy to rent a bike when you need it and doesn’t require dedicated docking stations or other infrastructure. SoBi bikes are fitted with with on-board computers, mobile communication systems, and GPS so that they can be easily located and reserved. Energy is gathered and stored as you pedal to power these systems, and when the bike is at rest, the solar panel on the top provides additional power.

Luxury bicycle manufacturer M55 just tipped the scales of wretched excess by releasing its new Terminus Royal and Terminus Prime line of e-bikes, which can be blinged out with Swarovski crystals, diamonds, and gold. The Royal line comes studded with gems and precious metals, and the ‘no-limit’ Prime line can be decked out with practically anything you can imagine. The company is marketing its cycles to VIP e-bike loving customers — starting at $37,600 — but we can’t help but think about the wasted resources going into blinging-out these Terminus electric bikes. No matter how many zero-emissions miles you might ride on these two-wheeled vehicles, you’ll never make up for the resources that went into mining the precious materials that make these bikes sparkle.

If you love turning heads when you take a ride around town, then the Ryno electric unicycle is probably for you. Designer Chris Hoffmann had his eyes set on the Segway crowd when he started work on the Ryno, and he has come up with quite the interesting looking one-wheeled auto. The cost for a pre-production Ryno is a whopping $25,000 and Hoffmann already has five orders, but he expects the market model to cost about $3,500. The production model will have a top speed of 25 mph, a range of up to 30 miles and an impressive 25-inch thick tire. Hit the jump for video proof of this gadget in action!

Inventor Terry Hope has created the Solarcross – a sun-powered electric bike outfitted with three photovoltaic panels, a 24-volt electric motor, and three 5,000 mAh lithium-ion batteries. The brilliant bicycle soaks up the sun’s rays as a source of clean electricity to propel it through the streets. All in all the kit weighs about 50 pounds and it can reach speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour (31 mph) – and best of all, Hope says that any bike can be converted to run on solar power for about $300-$500!

Among the many green offerings from the Frankfurt Motor Show is a new bike from Husqvarna called the e-go, an electric bicycle that looks just like a motorcycle but appears to be floating on air. The e-go weighs just 176 pounds and its frame, though sturdy and well-supported, is designed in such a way as to make the rear half look airy and light.
