If you’ve been reading Inhabitat, you may know that we’ve got a tough task that we really need your help with – choosing the winner of our Green Halloween Costume Contest! Halloween is officially over now and we saw a lot of entertaining, inspiring and just plain weird costumes this year. After sifting through the submissions, we’ve decided that the Inhabitat Green Halloween Costume Contest first prize goes to the team of ‘Green Building Fairies’ from University of Tennessee. Using leftover model-making material, this team of architecture students fashioned themselves into fairies of green building — even going as far as creating green roof ‘hats’ with little solar panels on top of them. How Inhabitat is that? You ladies clearly know what we like here at Inhabitat.. and for that you are this years prize winner.

Halloween is one of our favorite holidays of the year, and one of the best parts of Halloween is seeing people get creative and resourceful with their costumes. Anyone can buy a plastic / spandex costume at a drugstore, but not only is that boring and generic — it is the opposite of environmentally friendly. We encourage you all to get inspired and resourceful this year and go green with your Halloween costumes! This could mean cobbling together a great DIY idea from items you already have around your house, or picking up some old items at the local charity shop to create your costume (as demonstrated by Managing Editor Emily as Eskimo Pi (3.14159…) and her Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle/Sister).
