Teresa Sapey’s Adán sculptural pieces can be used as seating structures, vases or side tables. Part of the diptych design called ‘ADAN and EVA’, ADAN is predominantly geometric and linear, resembling a faceted diamond, while his counterpart is gentle, soft and delicate. The planter version of the design was commissioned to decorate the Air Gardens in Valencia for the NIT A LES ARTS event, which marked the closing of this year’s opera season.

These beautiful teacups made by Swedish artist Cecilia Levy are not only beautiful to look at but also light on the environment! Made from recycled book pages, each cup and saucer is a unique piece of art that you certainly wouldn’t want to pour your coffee in. After receiving an MFA in graphic design and teaching at the College of Arts and Crafts in Gothenburg, Levy decided to really get to know her medium by taking bookbinding classes. Working intensively with her hands, she realized books could be pieces of art too – read on for a look at her incredible work!

French artisan Alain Bellino took his craft to the dark side when he welded a number of leftover metal pieces together to create this surprisingly realistic Darth Vader bust. Bellino saves and restores a variety of items – from chandeliers to sculptures to tea sets to door knockers – and his handmade Vader sculpture is made of everything but the kitchen sink (including two recycled spoons for the eyes and an entire helmet of decorative ornaments). If you’re impressed with Bellino’s Star Wars tribute, check out his online portfolio for a look at his other creations – which include a chrome skull, a lamp made of out forks and spoons, and even a model of the Statue of Liberty!

“Steinway Mandala” is a 48″ diameter wall sculpture created by Philadelphia-based artist Carol Cole using parts from a 1920 Steinway grand piano. Don’t worry, no pianos were harmed in the making of this piece – to the contrary, the piano was restored and these parts were returned to the owner. Fortunately, the owner was familiar with Cole’s work (which transforms common objects into uncommon art) and gave the pieces to her for repurposing into this sculpture.

At first glance, this might look like an ordinary drum set to you, but take a closer look — the instruments are actually miniature works of eco art created using ordinary metal cans. Dutch artist Helmut Smits transforms mundane cans and other types of packaging into all types of grin-inducing art installations from these can drums to Coca Cola can lamps. Cantastic!

We are simply awe-struck by Shinji Turner-Yamamoto’s Hanging Garden sculpture, which was recently installed in the abandoned Holy Cross Church of Cincinnati. The organic artwork consists of a living tree supported by an inverted, uprooted dead tree, delicately suspended in a deserted worship space.

Yuken Teryua‘s work proves that discarded everyday objects can be re-invented into something elegant and beautiful. The Japanese artist crafts toilet paper rolls with a level of detail so that they adopt a new identity as delicately sculpted pieces — reminiscent of columnar wind chimes intertwined in the branches of a tree. The Japanese artist has also used shopping bags and old pizza boxes in his collection of work that uses recycled materials to defy the defined roles of these objects.
