This brilliant Bufalino Camper is a minature home that’s perfect for the minimalist voyager seeking to lead a contemporary nomadic lifestyle. The compact vehicle is kitted out with all of the essentials a modern camper may need – a bed, a basin, a cooking area, and a laptop desk. German industrial designer Cornelius Comanns wanted to provide a space for people on the move – a flexible ‘home’ to return to (despite the absence of a bathroom!)

What better way to manage coffee table clutter that with a table that doubles up as a paper shredder? Created by industrial design studio Pigeontail, the Papervore is hungry for all you printed leftovers. Measuring 16″h x 31″w x 16″d and constructed from aluminum, mahogany, oak and acrylic with a distinct mod aesthetic, the Papervore can easily munch up any correspondence with just a turn of the crank. And of course, once you’ve filled up the base container, off to the recycling bin it goes. Click ahead for an adorable video of this clever creation in action!

Industrial Design student, Alvaro Uribe of Pratt Institute, wowed us last weekend at BKLYN Designs with his sleek Mantis Table. Inspired by insect body parts and adding a light and elegant touch to any interior, the table’s base is structured to mimic the small and delicate legs of a praying mantis which are uniquely angled to support the insect’s disproportionately long and heavy body. The design uses bio-inspired concepts adding to the structure’s lightness while still encompassing high-strength properties to support the heavy glass surface.

With the recent rise in popularity of electronic readers such as the Amazon Kindle and the Apple iPad, thoughts of “book extinction” have really seeped their way into design conversations. Italy-based Gartenkulter pays tribute to the tree with these beautiful planters made from old and disused books. By removing the heart of the book’s cover and pages and then creating a seal, the book becomes a home for a living and growing tree. “As each seed becomes a plant or tree, the book becomes a pot or cradle.”

Digging Deeper: Building Blocks for Sustainable Design is an exciting competition that partners designers with the City of San Francisco to tackle real urban problems and find viable solutions. Launched in late September, the competition challenges designers from every field to design a physical or social urban agriculture product/system. If you have ideas for how to design and implement real-life solutions that provide local food to urban areas, act quickly because the deadline is January 31st!
