Google has been cleaning up existing buildings in cities across the globe, from San Francisco to Berlin, turning them into colorful work and play environments that are the envy of every cubicle worker. But now the company has unveiled plans to build a structure anew as an extension to their current headquarters in Mountain View, California. The corporate giant gave Vanity Fair the scoop on the green-roofed expansion, which was conceived in collaboration with Seattle-based design firm NBBJ.

Construction is currently in progress on what will be the largest sports park in China, featuring “picturesque and sustainable public spaces” as well an Olympic-size stadium inspired by the local flora found on the nearby banks of Hangzhou’s West Lake. Designed by NBBJ in collaboration with CCDI, the 400,000 sq meter Hangzhou Sports Park in Hangzhou, China began construction back in December and is expected to be completed in 2013.

Sports fans, get ready for a spectacular new experience – NBBJ recently revealed their design for China’s new Dalian Shide Stadium and it’s like nothing we’ve ever seen before. Built as though the stadium literally opened up from underground, two exterior walls of the structure are covered in grass and plants and the other two are open to connect the games with the city and allow glimpses of the intense action inside. Sustainability is a top priority and the design includes water recycling, daylighting, renewable energy and the beautiful and original living walls on the exterior.
