Czech company KOMA MODULAR‘s newest design store, located near the town of Lüneburg, Germany provides storage, office and sales space all in one compact building. The building is made from recycled shipping containers, and it provides live/work space that is highly flexible and it can be moved or adapted to fit the user’s needs. Large windows in the showroom fill the room with natural light, and the second floor is offset, leaving enough space for a large terrace. The current owners is a young design engineer who focuses on interior furnishing.

The company recently built a modular Eco-Bar for the Interior Design Show in Toronto that consists of an open lattice system with interchangeable panels that can be customized to offer shelving, cabinets, transparent panels, and planters. Frank Lloyd Wright meets modern day prefab in the stunning Mod.Fab home, developed by students at Taliesin West in collaboration with their Dean Victor Sidy and Inhabitat favorite Jennifer Siegal. The goal of the collaboration was to build a prototype prefab conducive to elegant and sustainable living within the heart of the desert landscape. It only took a single picture for us to become instantaneous fans, and from passive solar design to photovoltaic panels and SIPs we’re thoroughly impressed with the project’s sustainable elements.

While rapper Ice Cube is certainly known for his lyrical stylings, what you may not know is that he studied architectural drafting before he got big. He also has a deep appreciation for design – and he shows off his love in a new ad about art in LA for the Pacific Standard Time. Here, Ice Cube rhapsodizes and pays tribute to midcentury design icons Charles and Ray Eames. After listing off some of his favorite buildings in LA, Ice Cube tours the Eames house and tells us why loves it so much – the Eames were resourceful, the house was built in two days, has prefabricated walls, and creates connections with nature. “This was going green 1949-style, bitch. Believe that.” The quotes are amazing – each sentence is worthy of repetition and it’s sure to brighten your day – it certainly brightened ours.
