Argentine studio Designo Patagonia created this awesome series of Tetris-shaped street furniture that showcases recyclable materials like plastic bottles, cans, and paper. Located within a city park in Córdoba, Argentina, these unique seats and tables were designed for recreation and to teach passerby about sustainability issues. The Tetris-shaped containers are made from iron frames and glass, are packed with recyclable materials, and feature easy-to-understand eco-facts written on the surface of each piece.

Each year, the Frieze Art Fair brings top galleries and artists from around the world to London. This year, architects Carmody Groarke were asked to create temporary pavilions for the fair in Regent’s Park. Built from timber and plastic, the pavilions were spacious venues flooded with light during the day that glowed brightly at night. Best of all, each of the pavilions were recycled after the fair was over.

A group of students in Sao Paulo, Brazil, recently constructed a giant monkey out of thousands of flip-flops! Designed for the Pixelshow 2010 this fun sculpture currently lies innocently in a local park ready to amuse and entertain passersby on their daily strolls. And if you’re concerned about the final destination of all this colorful footwear, don’t worry – it’s almost summertime in São Paolo, and plenty of people are ready to trade in their boots for something more breathable.

Volkswagen was eager to tell the public about their new Polo car, which is made out of 95% recyclable materials, so they enlisted German firm DDB to come up with some creative advertising. The result is these hilarious oversized “Car Recycling Bins” that have an auto-shaped slot. The bins are obviously too small to fit an actual car into, but we hope they’re getting some use while they raise brand awareness.

These Noshi stools by Nick Seymour from Designloop look like they’re made from paper, but they’re actually made from a single sheet of laser-cut mild steel cleverly folded into a beautifully simple form. We love seeing flat-packable designs that make the most of materials, and these no-screw no-glue stools wowed us with their (very recyclable) adaptation of origami on an industrial scale!

The Crib prefab is another cool example of a small sustainable structure designed for a backyard residence, studio, or  remote cabi. Inspired by the traditional American architecture of corn cribs, a common farm building used to store and dry corn, The Crib uses prefabricated steel beam architecture as a nod to traditional timber frame construction. Built in such a way that the shelter could easily be dismantled and moved, it is also easily recyclable at the end of its life. We like it the fact that it’s really different looking from a lot of the prefabs out there.
