This watery blue chair by Pawel Grunert is as refreshing as the liquid that was once contained in the plastic bottles it’s made from. Called the SIE43 Chair, the piece was constructed for the ‘Eco Trans Pop’ exhibition at the Colombari Gallery in Milan, Italy. Grunert created a stainless steel frame to which he affixed dozens of PET bottles to create the cascade of blue. Though the seat doesn’t look like the most comfortable one we’ve seen, it’s an attractive piece of eco art that calls attention to the versatility of recycled materials.

Designer Ivars Gansons has turned an old bed frame and a stack of bicycle inner tubes into a beautiful recycled street bench. Each section was inventively created with reused objects interwoven to form a comfy looking seat. The ends of the bench were taken from an antique children’s bed, and the middle section was a former chandelier stand. Gansons welded together each part, then created the meshed fabric out of inner tubes to cover the frame.

Chaotic and cluttered, yet unexpectedly harmonious, the bookshelf is the perfect addition to the modern home, which is embellished with surprising accents of bold color and quirky forms. The designer’s eclectic collection of books and knickknacks also look right at home on the shelves.

As the official “Moving Day” of Montreal, Canada, every July 1st the city streets find themselves littered with abandoned furniture. To save these pieces from dumpster doom, designer Marjolaine Poulin has made an art out of collecting the unwanted and creatively giving them new life as quirky designs with a whole lot of character. Going as far as to cutting and fusing two or more unlikey pieces together, to simply giving an exisiting form an unexpected splash of color, each of her creations are unique and highlight the possibilities of reuse.

If you’re looking for a truly unique side table for your bedroom or living room, look no further than the TIND. Designed by Nils Finne, this smartly designed piece of furniture has a high visual impact but a low environmental footprint. That’s because it’s made from a recycled steel top that has been waterjet-cut to reveal an intricate pattern which casts fragments of shadow and light on the floor below it. Even the legs have been crafted from bamboo, one of the world’s most rapidly renewable materials.

This is probably the most interesting use of a out of commission vehicle we’ve ever seen. Created by Cyril Latapy, this colorful retro armchair was actually once a 1968 4L Renault! With a full front grill at the base and two doors complete with handles at its side, this funky design is a centerpiece sure to stir up some strange conversations – and we’re guessing some sore bums. What, no cushions?

Made by Arjun Rathi and a friend out of a vintage Kelvinator door and condenser coils and metal procured from the various scrap markets of Mumbai, the table was lovingly restored to its original color and looks like it could sell for hundreds at a fancy modern furniture store even though it was constructed from trash.

Dutch furniture designer Pepe Heykoop recently unveiled a new line that recycles remnant leather scraps and old furniture into provocative new pieces. Appropriately named “Skin,” the collection features office and dining chairs, tables and vanities that have been custom fit with patchworks of butter-soft leather scraps, in muted and neutral colors. The Skin collection is not only innovative and sensuous, but it is also made of completely recycled waste materials.
