One of the most interesting designs on display at BKLYN Designs this week is Bower's Polaris lamp, and yesterday Inhabitat's New York correspondents were able to view it in person. One of the most interesting designs on display at BKLYN Designs this week is Bower‘s Polaris lamp, and yesterday Inhabitat’s New York correspondents were able to view it in person. According to Bower, the lamp is made from solid pieces of scrap wood. Magnets have been embedded in several faces on the geodesic lamp,  allowing users to attach it to any magnetic surface. Chissick Design just unveiled a new collection of beautiful fused wood furniture. Each piece is made of scrap wood collected from different carpenters that is fused together to create unique pieces of sustainable furniture. The salvaged wood furnishings range from credenzas and chairs to shelves and tables, and each piece is defined by the form of the materials collected.

Designer Peter Marigold has created a unique flexible storage system based upon the simple geometric principle that states ‘the inverted angles of a shape split into pieces will always add up to 360 degrees; the angles can be interchanged but will always form a whole’. A graduate from the renowned Royal College of Art, Marigold developed his sculptural shelves and seats using found wood and a single vertically split branch for the corners of each polygon.

Recently spotted at New Designers exhibition in London, this long and lean wooden lamp is made with neither glue nor screws. Designed by recent Plymouth University graduate Dan Murley, the design is made from pieces of scrap wood left over from the creation of a chair. The svelte wooden lamp was originally created with a shiny-blue recycled aluminum shade, but for the New Designers show it featured a recycled Chinese lantern that provides the piece with an exotic, yet minimal aesthetic.

When searching for ideas to build out the interior of a gourmet food shop in Bangkok, Architectkidd came across a community of carpenters in the nearby slums utilizing scrap wood from shipping pallets to make small items and knick-knacks. Architectkidd was impressed with their resourcefulness as well as their carpentry skills and hired some of them to build out the interior of the shop, which happens to be in an upscale part of Bangkok. The resulting project is an interesting collection of simple, stackable wooden boxes called “Klong Toey Boxes”, named after Klong Toey slum where the workers came from.
