The Daylight House is a family home in the center of Yokohama, Japan that manages to soak up an abundance of natural light despite its location next to tall nearby buildings. Immersed within the city’s cramped terrain, the home’s geometry was designed to make good use of available natural resources [6]. Recyclable acrylic skylights [7] have been placed all along the home’s ceiling, allowing residents to enjoy outside light throughout the day.

The clean, soft interiors are covered with only one material – light wood panelling [8]. Hidden cupboards provide storage and organization, while living plants add a dose of greenery. The Daylight House also has an air trap system in the ceiling that stores heat during cold days and releases it when the house gets too warm.
