Teich [2], a new sustainable fashion [3] boutique, has taken NYC [4] by storm and the Inhabitat fashion [3] team was lucky enough to be on the scene for a trunkshow there last week showcasing eco-fabulous designer Ryann [5]! In addition to the very delectable line of handbags [6] for which the shop is named, there was plenty of eye candy in the form of floaty organic dresses, delicate recycled jewelry and, my personal favorite, exclusive NYC name pendants (see storeowner Allison Teich’s neck in the pic above) that Junkprints [7] custom-made for the store out of old records!

New York Editor Olivia Chen [9] and I oohed and ahhed over the shop’s yummy array of the latest sustainable fashions, but we were just as intrigued by the airy, azure colored space. Allison told us the store’s history as we munched on baby carrots and hummus. “It used to be an eyeglass store,” she mused, perched behind the glass counter. The crisply painted display cases which showcase Teich styles as bold pops of color were glasses cases in a past life – what a perfect way to repurpose them! We were also intrigued by the multi-use storage/fitting/bath room – as New Yorkers, we all nodded in agreement about the importance of multi-tasking areas in a city as space-deprived as ours. Needless to say, we were impressed with Allison’s decision to do very little renovation, and instead work with what already existed in the space as well as her brilliant decorating skills!

If you’re in the NYC [4] area, definitely pop in and check out this little gem of a store. You’ll get to meet Allison, browse the hottest in sustainable fashion [3] and accessories, and be inspired if you’re looking for ideas on how to make a small space all that it can be. And if you happen to see a tall Asian girl in the corner trying on everything and taking forever to decide if she should buy something, please don’t laugh at me!
