Gallery: Tejo Remy and Rene Veenhuizen...

Designed by Dutch duo Tejo Remy and Rene Veenhuizen, the Bamboo Chair is a limited edition design made completely out of the pandas’ favorite food. Bamboo is a fantastic, eco-friendly alternative to hardwood, but its image is not always so positive as many bamboo products are being produced in developing countries under not-so-ethical conditions. However, when the material is properly sourced, it can provide a great design medium that can be easily shaped into an array of fun forms like this nest-inspired design.

Meassuring 27 x 27 x 40 inches, the idea for the Bamboo Chair came about after some experimenting with bending techniques. Veenhuizen told Inhabitat they first tested out the material by bending and braiding bamboo boards. By pushing the material to its limits, they came up with this wonderful nest-like design.

The Dutch duo are producing these sustainable bamboo seats in limited edition quantities, and they can be ordered by contacting them at their Utrech workshop or via their webpage.
