Tesla CEO Elon Musk Says an Electric Pickup May be in Tesla’s Future

Yesterday was a big day for Tesla [4] as it celebrated the arrival of its second major award with Motor Trend naming the Model S [5] its 2013 Car of the Year [6]. After receiving the award, Tesla CEO Elon Musk [7] was interviewed by Motor Trend, in which he provided more details about Tesla’s [8] future, which may include a pickup truck.
Tesla has already unveiled its next model the Model X crossover [9] and after the crossover arrives Tesla will introduce a new smaller sedan that will go head to head with the BMW [10] 3 Series.
This is the first time that we’re hearing about a Tesla pickup truck, and Musk’s suggestion confirms that Tesla [4] is intent on becoming a full-line automaker. Elon Musk didn’t provide any other details about the possible pickup truck and it remains to be seen if Tesla can succeed in building an electric pickup [11] in the highly competitive truck segment. Given the success of the Model S [12] sedan a Tesla pickup could be a game changer in the segment.
