THE AGE OF STUPID is coming to NYC – Sept 21st!

by , 09/07/09

IF YOU SEE ONE MOVIE THIS FALL – THIS IS THE ONE TO SEE!

Everyone knows that hindsight is 20/20, but will we regret our lack of action on climate change in the year 2020? That’s what The Age of Stupid, the groundbreaking film epic from McLibel director Franny Armstrong, wants to sink into the minds of everyone in the world. This brilliant movie, which will kick off UN Climate Week, is opening nationwide on Monday, September 21 at 450+ cinemas simultaneously — and we urge all Inhabitat readers to go see it as soon as you can!

Awareness! Bring awareness of the growing problems to the schools so the children of the future can make a difference!

Authentic looking fake BBC news report is undone by its use of fahrenheit ‘so that americans will understand’.

As much as I like Pete Postlewaite I don’t know if I can handle his ‘this is a serious issue’ face for two hours.

We need to raise more awareness and education about climate change. Awareness that our pollution and waste bring terrible consequences to nature and more importantly, to other human beings and our descendants. Education that teaches us to live a simpler and healthier life, be less materialistic and greedy, but at the same time enjoy affluence responsibly, so we are more environmentally and socially conscious.
We need to change our inner nature and appreciate the hard earned affluence that we enjoy nowadays, and not mindlessly waste it while that other half of the world is still trying to earn it.
Technology will not solve climate change, but it is only a retardant, it will slow it down. It is the same with medicine, no medication or technology can cure you if you lead an unhealthy life.
It is a conscious change that we need to take, and stop being stupid.

I can’t win this ticket as I don’t live in New York. However, I wanted to say that one way to curb global warming drastically is to stop, or at least reduce, the amount of meat we consume. The amount of greenhouse gases produced by meat eating is more than vehicles used world-round. This is something very easy that everyone can do. It also has immediate health benefits to you. Meat eaters are more likely to be obese and be at risk for cancer and heart disease. You don’t have to become vegetarian or vegan, but just cutting down on daily meat consumption, or having a “Meatless Monday,” is beneficial to you and the planet (and the animals).

Climate change will seal the fate of all of us if something isn’t done to take action NOW! The problem is that nobody wants to do anything about it at the grassroots level. As Edmund Burke stated:” Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little”. I think that a good first step is for everyone to become more educated along the lines of localism… local food, especially. I stumbled upon a short newspaper article (in the Delta County Independent) about a young lady that is making a difference by producing a video about becoming a locavore. start by sitting down when we eat and when drink, not running around, think about what we are eating , where it comes from, we eat things that were alive before, they deserves at least we are aware of it.
Then start to look at all objects for what they are not only for what they are useful for, a phone is a phone but also a piece of metal and plastic, a notebook is useful to take notes but is is also paper and tree juice, a pencil is wood, etc

The most important thing we need to do to help fight climate change is to make thinking and acting responsibly the default option. Living susainably needs to become easier, cheaper and more appealing for all humans – and especially for the stupid.
