If you have ever found yourself a little underwhelmed by the performance of electric vehicles, the European Commission is out to change your mind with the new VOLAR-e high-performance electric sports car. The VOLAR-e is one of the most powerful electric cars ever built with an output of 1,000 horsepower from four electric motors.

The VOLAR-e has a super-quick charging battery that can fully charge in under 20 minutes and a regenerative system keeps those batteries topped off each time the car breaks. The car can reach 62-mph in just 3.4 seconds, putting right up there with other racing vehicles, and it has reached a top speed of 186-mph. It also has four driving modes – eco, dynamic, racing, wet – but the company hasn’t specified the difference with each one, yet. The vehicle was taken for its first public outing this week at the Circuit de Catalunya, a race track in Barcelona, Spain.

The car is the result of a collaboration between the European Commission, who provided half of the funding, and Spanish design firm Applus IDIADA. The EC wanted to create a car that could keep up with conventional racing vehicles and help turn the attitude about electric vehicle technology.

Now in Europe, we have 3 supercars electrical, this spanish one, the french Exagon and the croatian Rimac. Way to go Europe, now we want them affordable for everybody… And I do not forget some electrical Mercedes and Audi E-tron. Meanwhile Renault is giving us a Renault Zoé, fully electrical for affordable budget…
