Thanks gents. Agreed, 100%. I grew up in a South African village along the “Klip River.” It floods all the time. Last year, it was so bad that many people who had lived in the village for decades lost all of their belongings, etc. They are still trying to recover. These cases are definitely escalating.

If you live a in a flood plain, it should be required to build a house on legs. It may increase the cost of initial construction, but it will later save money for everyone…the state, the owners, the insurance companies. Most of New Orleans should be rebuilt in stilts.

Lots of people have houses elevated on poles or have no real foundation. Something we should take greater interest in. Whether you believe in climate change or not……..floods do happen and have happened. And living near a river or below sea level makes having a home with a basement a liability.
