Since The Great Wall apartment-factories are located near the eastern end of the monumental Great Wall of China, the architects based its shape to resemble Hakka Houses, with a green courtyard at the core, surrounded by an enclosed shopping and living building.

The Korean term ‘apartment-factory’ is usually employed to describe piled up, small-scale manufacturing factories or office. However, in many instances, these stockpiled structures have given way to poor daylighting and problems associated with poor working conditions. Acknowledging these issued, Yamasaki Ku Hong Associates Design Lab set out to design a more sustainable model for living.
