In order to minimize the perceived distance between the inside and outside, Lautenbag constructed the home’s southern facade entirely out of glass. This has the added benefit of naturally lighting and warming what looks a lot like a pitched dollhouse and reducing the wintertime energy footprint. During the summer, solar gain is reduced by shading overhangs. Although decidedly minimalist in design and creativity, there’s a lot to be said for such practical interventions, especially when they cut down the amount of carbon entering our atmosphere!
