Hopefully, in the not too distant future, we will be riding about town in more stylish electric vehicles like this electric tricycle designed by Dimitris Niavis . The Kaylad 2.0 electric tricycle is an electric-assisted tricycle that has been designed as an eco-friendly and reliable alternative to the standard modes of commuting.
When he designed the Kaylad 2.0, Dimitris Niavis set out to create an eco-friendly mode of transportation that would promote active commuting rather than the more standard passive vehicles, like trains and busses. Niavis stated that “safety and fun” were the basic guidelines of the tricycle, and he designed it using human-centered tools and methodologies. He also created the tricycle so that it would comply with all European Union En-15194 standards, rules and regulations.
The Kaylad 2.0 is powered by a 250-watt electric motor with a lithium-ion battery that has four driving modes able to provide up to 75% of assistance. It also features seven gears, tubeless tires and hydraulic disc brakes. LED headlights and taillights provide added safety, and an independent front suspension makes it easier to ride. The front of the Kaylad 2.0 also has a shelf that provides a secure spot for your luggage.
According to Niavis, the Kaylad 2.0 is the result of a three-month course that he took in 2011. Next he plans on producing a working prototype of the Kaylad 2.0.
