As summer heats up and tourists flock to London for the Olympics [2] many in the capital may find themselves seeking an escape from the urban madness; and the Maddox Beach Club [3], a pop-up beach located just 100 meters from the Olympic Stadium looks like it could help with just that. Located at Forman’s Fish Island Rivieria, the pop-up beach is drawing over-heated Londoners to bask in the sun or enjoy the shade of the club’s palm trees. The temporary beach comes just in time to help locals and visitors alike keep cool while enjoying the fresh air, rather than idle in air-conditioned rooms.

According to Director of Public Relations, Corrado Mozzillo, the beach club opens its doors at 8:30 am each day to welcome visitors to take relief from the hot sticky city streets. A stones throw from the Olympic madness [5], visitors can lounge in the shade of the open-air palm forest while sipping on icy beverages, or nosh on grilled goods thanks to The Admirable Crichton. With  a river front location, guests can also catch the breeze off the Thames from their own lounger chair.

Or, if the summer sun brings on the sporty spirit, guests can enjoy a game of beach volleyball, without the hour plus commute to the pebbly beaches of Brighton. DJs and live music provide the soundtrack for a relaxing day [6]. Located just 100 meters from the Olympic stadium [7], the pop-up beach also gives guests a less chaotic oasis to stay cool naturally, while watching the games on several monitors. Like a day trip to the beach, the Maddox Beach Club can be reached by car, public transport or even boat.

Pop-up beaches, like the Maddox beach Club, provide a summer respite for urban dwellers who don’t have time for a beach trip. These urban oases are a center for relaxation without upping your energy bill, giving the serenity of a day at the beach without leaving the neighborhood.
