Wrapped in a reflective envelope that provides only glimpses of its colorful interior, this cultural center in France by Peripheriques Architectes + Marin + Trotti creates an interplay of natural and man-made environments. The building's restrained orthogonal exterior mirrors passing clouds, while the interior holds a dynamic environment shaped by perforated angular surfaces.
An internal street cuts through the volume of the building and segments it to recreate an urban scale. This sheltered path leads from the entrance and extends all the way to the west corner of the ground floor. Versatile programs are organized around this main circulation area that forms a lobby.
The internal organization accentuates diversity of functions and environments, blending together different art forms and providing an area where visitors can interact and share experiences. The activities contained in each space are clearly defined and create a feeling of collaboration and interdisciplinary creation.
