Gallery: The Solar-Heated Adaptahaus is the UK’s First Affordable Green...

For some people "prefab" may sound more utilitarian than luxury, but the first completed Adaptahaus in West Cumbria is a posh, attractive shelter that can change that perception - even though it's totally affordable! Designed by Alan Dawson Associates, these low carbon prefab Adaptahauses are assembled offsite in a factory in order to cut down on costs and construction waste, and to ensure the highest build quality. Almost all of the materials used, including steel and timber, are either recycled or sourced locally, and solar and wind energy can be incorporated into the design. And because the Adaptahaus has no inner walls, it is a very flexible home that will last much longer than a standard prefab might. Oh and did we mention that it's also on track to receive Passiv Haus certification?
