Left transparent in order to invite curious onlookers to see what’s brewing inside the two-storey center, the building’s southern facade maximizes natural lighting. It also has a steep pitched roof which facilitates easy placement of solar panels that provide part of the overall energy requirement. A horizontal sunscreen keeps the harshest sun out during the summer while allowing much-appreciated warmth in the winter. And what of the sundial? A reminder of just how important the sun is in every day life, this modern rendition of a bygone tool tells both central and daylight savings time.
